Show THE CACHE CICHE COUNTY IF FAIR AIR IN m SP SEPTEMBER EB More than 25 years ago Logan City acquired forty acres of land in the tho southwest section of the city well adapted for park purposes Due to the lack of funds no extensive improvements im- im improvements im improvements were made but the natural advantages ad such as the streams of water cold springs black willow and poplar trees native shrubs and grass grasson grasson grasson on the land and the general lay of it made it a desirable place for ward outings and other amusements amusement In 1911 1011 the chamber of commerce through the efforts of George Dunbar succeeded in getting business men and farmers of the city and county to contribute 30 each as a fund to help establish a county fair on a portion I of the ground the tho city had secured as its public park An exhibition building stalls fences bridges and a arace arace race course were built during the sum sum- summer sum sum- summer summer mer of 1911 1011 so that by September of that year the first Cache county fair was held There was much enthusiasm in in the fair and it was a decided success After it was over the subscribers were called together and the Cache County Fair was officially organized with C CM M Harris Harri as its first president A Alease Alease Alease lease for a portion of the City park was secured and the Cache County Count y Fair became an e established institution institution tion of the county Under the I law it i t I received an annual appropriation t to o help pay for the premiums otherwise I the fair could not have existed With the exception of two years during the war the fair has been held annually since its inception Each year more stalls have been added and improve improve- improvements improvements improvements ments made so that now it is possible to house all aU the livestock that is ex- ex exhibited exhibited ex exhibited The exhibition building is not adequate however and more space must be provided for the many exhibits in agriculture horticulture m manufacture women's work and the The fair has had a remarkable in- in influence in influence influence fluence especially among the lead lead- leading leading ing dairy county of the state At the the county fair held in 1921 1924 more more than ninety head of purebred Holstein cattle cat cat- cattle tic cat tle alone were on exhibit and would rank with many Holsteins at state fairs Richmond in the north end of the county is the center for the Hol- Hol Holstein stein Hol-stein stein breed and many buyers from other counties and states come here hereto hereto hereto to buy purebred Holst Holstein in cattle The dairymen at Richmond have goo good d foundation stock so they need not go goto g goto o to eastern and horse power powe r to a great extent still Cache count county y takes much pride in its fine draft t horses At every fair many fine draft t I stallions mares and geldings are arc ex- ex exhibited exhibited ex exhibited To stimulate more interest t in the horses liberal cash prizes are ar e offered for the winners in the horse hors e pulling contests Th These se contests are ar e exciting features for all visitors of o othe f the fair The light draft will contest contes t the first day Sept 22 and the heavy y drafts will contest t the e third day Sept 24 The Cache County Fair grounds ground s have always been a popular place for forthe fo forthe r the training of harness horses Com Corn Comfortable Comfortable box stalls near near- neara a clear s of water and the grassy paddocks near nearby nea nearby r by make it a desirable place for the th e harness horsemen As a result o of f these conditions it has become the th e center for the training of harness harnes s horses for Utah and Idaho Durin During g the season all the stalls are filled gd d I with i more ore than fifty head of horses horse s to be trained for the fall circuit This Thi s year the racing circuit will open si i the Twin Falls County Fair at Filer Idaho This is followed by the district dis district fair at Dlack Blackfoot oot and then at a Logan Sept 24 22 and then to the th e Utah State Fair The horses are arc in infine i infine n fine condition and should give vcr verb exciting races all through the circuit t with five and six head in each race Widow Hal which was formerly own own- owned Hal was train train- trained trained ed ld here and raced through the circuit t last season A number of the fast running horses horse s now at the State Fair grounds will also make the racing lacing circuit aon along g with the harness horses These with witha witha i a number of other running horses horse s from Utah and Idaho will give roan man fast runn running ng races between the heats heat s of the harness races In any crowd there are arc likes an dislikes and to make a success of n a program there must be a variety and an d eacy event move rapidly There must t be no waits With years of
