Show AMENDMENT MINE TAXATION of f t the e P the advocates of the adoption of constitution titu 1 posed amendment to the cons state relating to the taxation of mines are still at work trying to throw dust into the eyes of those holding the elective franchise and are more persistent than ever in their endeavor to cripple an industry upon which the progress and advancement of the state chiefly depends for without our mining interests utah would not now occupy the proud position it holds as being one of the richest and most progressive commonwealths of the west utah is not a strictly agricultural or farming state but it is a leader when it comes to the production of metallic wealth and to give an appointive board the power to tax it to death would cause a condition that would constitute a menace to the welfare and prosperity of every industry whose very life is interwoven with mining operations it is hard to believe that the honest voter will accept or indorse the statements being made that by the adoption of the amendment his taxes will be decreased while those of the mine owner will be increased for no honest man would be willing to benefit at the expense of another by the application of an unjust law that would smack so much of highway robbery politicians of the stripe who endeavor to t use dupes in pulling the chestnuts out of the fire cannot well be relied upon to fulfill any promise promise made and the little taxpayer may rest assured that if the iniquitous amendment is adopted it will not relieve him in any way from his own burden of taxation it is also questioned if the proposed amendment would be constitutional for if adopted it would delegate p ver and authority to an appoint lve noard doard which have been vested by the constitution in the state legislature |
