Show THE COAL SITUATION the coal situation in utah has been vastly improved during the past two or three weeks and reports from the coal mines are to the effect that the output has practically reached about 80 per cent capacity there is no fuel shortage in salt lake and ogden at the present time and large consignments consign ments of coal are being sent into states west and north of here and this will relieve the famine in isolated portions of the country according to advices advises there is now no scarcity of cars in the coal bearing regions and these are being handled with expediency by the railroads as soon as they are loaded As a general thing coal mining operators are having but little difficulty in securing necessary labor the greatest handicap to still heavier production being its inefficiency caused by the fact that so many experienced men left the country during the prolonged shutdowns shut downs during the fall and early winter in other words organization has not been successfully maintained and it will take some time before newly gathered forces can work as a unit it is most fortunate for the public that the fall and winter up to the first of the month was so mild inird and summer like had normally cold weather prevailed during that period much suffering on account of the lack of fuel would have been recorded and now that spring is so close at hand it is doubtful if there will again t be a coal shortage in any section of the west the coal mine operators are to be commended for the manner in which they have met most trying situations during b the past six months and it is only right and just to say that while the public has been up against it this winter its causes of complaint have been light compared to the burden that has been carried by the coal producers |
