Show COLE DIRECTING operations special correspondence butte mont aug 24 thomas F cole has been directing preliminaries res for a wider operation by the north butte company and resumption of development work in the rainbow and butte london the work of watering unwavering un both shafts has been progressing essing and the rainbow is about cleaned out the complete depth of the rainbow is 1300 feet with one lateral opening that is also filled with water the butte london shaft is 1200 feet deep and there are a number of crosscut openings it will require some time to the mine the two properties will be developed together the rainbow company having secured control of the butte london under a contract to do certain development work and it is proposed to crosscut the entire ground north and south and connect ne et with the workings in the rainbow the rainbow shaft will be sunk to a depth of 1500 feet and the veins will be opened at that point william hogan a well known ill mino 11 operator is foreman in charge of the work at both shafts the rainbow is equipped for working to a depth of 2500 feet A gallon electric pump installed on the foot station and a gallon pump at the 1000 are provided to take care of the water the property of the rainbow consists of atres acres of mineral ground immediately east of the butte superior and on the same big rainbow lode the butte london covers the greendale placer and consists of acres lying just south and east of the rainbow v the butte london shaft will be sunk to a depth of 1600 feet according to private reports from the mines of the north butte the lower levels are gradually developing some great ore bodies in the of the edith may where the directly in the crosscut was not so large or rich as on the 2800 level drifting is gradually opening a splendid ore body both east and west of the crosscut and promises to develop even better than the showing on the 2800 2800 on several of the upper levels the northern veins are also opening big and altogether the north butte situation is letting getting better each week although there is an abundance of ore in sight the company has not yet approached a normal production which was around pounds of copper per month the last quarterly report showed a decreasing content of copper in the ore due to the fact that mining was confined to the old ore bodies while the new level was being opened and other ore bodies developed the next quarterly report will be much more favorable vo rable and men familiar with conditions 1 in n the mine and the plans of the company are riot not at all skeptical or in doubt about the future in the first quarter of 1914 the north butte mined tona of ore yielding pounds of copper or 51 pounds to the ton in the second quarter tons were mined yielding pounds or 53 pounds to the ton ion in the third quarter tons pounds and only 50 pounds per ton fourth quarter tons pounds and 68 pounds per ton in the first quarter of the present year tons of ore were mined yielding pounds of copper at 62 pounds to the ton and the second quarter tons were mined producing pounds at the rate of 52 pounds to the ton 0 |
