Show LEACHING FOR NEVADA DOUGLAS archie orem general manager of the nevada douglas copper company operating in the yerington district of nevada has haa issued a statement to stockholders concerned in the proposed leaching plant which the company is to install the statement in part follows in view of the interest shown by nevada douglas stockholders in its leaching process I 1 feel called upon at this time to make a statement that will put them more closely in touch with what we have albeen doing and the results accomplished shed I 1 feel however that it would not be in the interests of the nevada douglas company or its stockholders for me to make public the details of the process sufficient to say that the process is entirely different from any of those now being used by other companies and that the ordinary solvents used in leaching copper ore do not form any important part in this process I 1 have been engaged in this work for the last three years and have been given an absolutely sol free hand to employ any technical skill needed or spend any amount of money that was necessary to accomplish the best results the process which we have finally decided upon comes as a result of these investigations during these three years we have carefully studied and investigated every leaching process in the united states that seemed to us worth investigating I 1 am now prepared to announce that we have solved the problem of treating ne vada douglas ores and feel no hesitancy in saying that the following results can bs be obtained the figures given being based on ore running 3 per cent in copper and carry ing 20 per cent iron and 20 per cent sulphur 3 per cent ore 60 pounds per ton at id 10 cents per pound 20 per cent sulphuric acid at 6 per ton io 0 per cent iron will make pounds of ferric oxide at 1 cents per pound 75 total valuation of copper and byproducts 1710 you will note that the copper has absen valued at 10 cents per pound and the sulphuric acid at 6 per pound which is as cheap as it can be manufactured manufacture a under the most favorable methods now in use the ferric oxide red paint has a ready market on the pacific coast at 21 2 2 cents per pound which is the laid down price by the shipload from european points it will not however be necessary for us to find a market for our sulphuric acid as most of this will be used in leaching our oxidized ores as well as many other large bodies of carbonate ores in this district cost of ore treated is estimated thus acid loss 35 acid regeneration 35 handling of solutions 50 electrolytic precipitation 60 pounds of copper at ya cents per pound 45 superintendence etc 52 mining crushing and grinding 50 depreciation of plant interest etc 30 freight handling etc 21 total cost per ton the success of many manufacturing industries dus tries has been due to the fact that they have saved and found a market for their products byproducts by the nevada douglas copper company is probably the first of the mining companies who have made any attempts along this line the great value of the process lies in the fact 1st ast that sulphide ores can be treated direct without being submitted to preliminary roasts 2nd and that all the sulphur in the ore is oxidized and converted into sulphuric acid for use in leaching oxidized ores 3rd ard that the iron in the ore is gotten into the form of a chemically pure ferric oxide feo wa which ilch has a ready market throughout the united states and which is produced at such a very low cost that it cabbe can be exported to europe if necessary the above conclusions have been reached after the most careful and painstaking investigation vesti gation and experiments at other mines and laboratories as well rs is i s that of the ne vada douglas the material is now on tha g round ground for erecting a mill which will treat from to tons per day we expect to have this in operation within six weeks in the meantime we are proceeding at once with the first unit tons of a larger large plant |
