Show ACTIVITY IN SAN JUAN times moab utah bluff has been visited during the past week by the heaviest storm known in years six inches of snow has fallen and it looks as aff if it will remain the oil fields are assuming new life for several months everything has been very quiet but for the past six weeks machinery and supplies have been rushed into the field to the full capacity of our transportation por tation facilities indeed the oil promoters have been compelled to draw on outside motor power to assure delivery on schedule time five new drills have passed through town during the past ten days they are now located in close proximity to the center of the field all of the machinery is being fitted with apparatus to consume oil for fuel tom brice has demonstrated during the past week that a great saving can be made in that direction one barrel 0 or oil worth about will do the work of 10 or 12 worth of wood three companies are now successfully using for fuel the oil discovered by mr brice last winter the galloway people of norwood col have recently discovered a very encouraging quantity of oil in johns canyon about forty miles from bluff parry dark clark and J B douglas are placing a machine on the east side of the san juan they expect to put about men to work immediately A very encouraging bit of news from the oil fields is that mr goodridge the old faithful of this section has met with more success he was seen in town today very jubilant over his strike at a depth of feet a sand was encountered which furnished considerable oil and a strong flow of gas the engineer who came to bluff to look over the river situation seems to have reported favorably on against the river it is reported here that the church has offered to furnish machinery and timbers to make the dams the people are expected to do the necessary work A rousing meeting of the claim holders of the grand river enterprise oil gas company was held at the county court house wednesday evening nineteen of the thirty six claim holders were present albert M rogers one of the discoverers of the oil who has been the principal promoter of the company called the meeting to order and briefly stated the objects of the meeting and outlined the work that had so far been done no attempt was made to perfect an organization as the claim holders felt that capital was needed to develop the property and that it would be better to first accept some of the several off offers ers that had been made by the capitalists to provide money to develop the claims for stock in the company and let the organization then made be permanent A A neff was elected secretary and treasurer for the claim holders and an assessment ses of 1 a share was levied on the property to defray the expenses to date mr neff A M rogers and R C clark were appointed a committee to confer with oil men concerning offers to finance the company they will report at the next meeting of the company which will be called by the secretary |
