Show MAYOR MYOR MORRIS READY R TO ACT Urges the Council to Consider Liberty Park Pumps 5 TELLS OF SPRINKLING PLAN SUBMITS HIS THIRD PUMPING PROPOSITION Thomas Weir chairman cf the mass meeting held at the Commercial club on Saturday night and the signers of at tile the call for that meeting are aro Invited to at attend attend tend a meeting of time the special water vater com committee of the city council at tomor tomorrow tomorrow row night when they will be given an aim opportunity to present their views on ott the water Question on The matter came before the council in ina ina a communication from W I 1 Snyder sec secretary rotary of the mass meeting The rho corn com communication carried the resolutions adopt adopted ed cd by the meeting Mayor Richard P Morris also sent in a communication on the matter as follows Mayor Morris Is Ready During the period of scarcity of wat water r in the pipe system strenuous ef of efforts forts have been made through the tilt dif ferent departments of the city to devise some means for relieving the situation and I am pleased to be able to report to the council that through the establish establishment ment of from the Jordan and Salt Lake City canal and the utilization of engines belonging to the city which are ars not required for other service the problem of sprinkling the streets has been practically solved by the th use of canal water and it is believed that there will be no further inconvenience or dis discomfort discomfort comfort from dusty streets This ar arrangement will not only Improve the anti sau condition of the city cit but will re ie relieve lieve time the pipe system from the tho heavy burden that has heretofore been laid upon it for the purpose of sprinkling the streets Time The matter of utilizing the water from the artesian wells at Liberty park has haa also been under careful consideration but as the engineering department has pointed out the inadequacy of the supply which Is only about gallons per hours and also the great expense of operating pumps to elevate this water into the pipe system I hayo I never felt justified in recommending time the f establishment of a plant for that purpose In view however of the action taken at a large meeting of representative citi citizens zens and taxpayers held at the Commer Commercial Commercial cial club on the evening of Sept 16 1905 at which meeting these theae facts were fully presented and the overwhelming mutt senti sentiment ment of those present being that the ar artesian artesian wells should be utilized as avail available available able source of supply as expressed In a resolution demanding of the city i that this water put ate use In the pipe system or In such part of it as is found most accessible and andI j 1 I practicable having due regard for tile the I wishes and opinions of the citizens I taxpayers of Salt Lake City i earnestly recommend that this matter receive your i early and careful consideration and as asI assure I sure you that any practicable plan which i you may deem proper to authorize will willI j I meet with mi mm approval I A resolution bv by instructing City Recorder J S Critchlow to invite Mr Weir and the signers of the call for forthe forthe the mass meeting to meet the special water committee tomorrow evening was passed unanimously and time tha committee was directed to submit its report on the matter to the council next Monday even lug lugI Nichols Proposes Again I I G U lIT Nichols put In his third proposition altion to pump water vater from time the Liberty I park wells It differs chiefly in that he I now o offers to supply gallons for ISO 10 days during the summer months and andI I 00 days during time the winter at S 34 per 1000 gallons promising to keep an engineer always on ott hand with rr s I banked under the boilers at alt times He lie further promises to pump water at ata ata i a of pounds into time the mains during a fire in the business district In Incase Inease ease case Ida his proposition is accepted Nichols promises to install within fifteen days a temporary pumping plant of gal Ions capacity with a pressure of fifty j I pounds per square inch |
