Show TOM CUTLER WELL KNOWN CYCLIST WHO WAS REPORTED KILLED A trim built athletic looking young plan pan walked into The Herald office yes yesterday yesterday afternoon There was nothing to toI I indicate that lie e had bad recently been a aI I resident of a cemetery or in fact that he had bud even been the principal in a funeral procession He handed out his card upon which was engraved the tl name TomI Tom I Butler And after a handshake It was plainly evident that he was waa alive and it was indeed Tom Butler the well vell known I cyclist late of the Barnum BaileY I shows dhows where he did the stunt of leaping the gap on a bicycle i under the name of Volo the Butter Butler ie Is th the cyclist who was reported killed while going through his i leg ing act of leaning the gap at Helena i Mont Moat Butler said yesterday that he was wan I I badly hurt and for several hours it was wasI I thought he would die and It was while in this condition the report was wan sent out that he lie was killed Butler said on the evening when the accident occurred ht body swerved about three inches out of or orthe the true course as he left the runway I for the leap He saw he would miss the receiving platform and tried to swerve his body enough to light in the proper place This he said he was unable to todo todo do and the rear wheel of his bicycle caught the edge of the receiving plat pint platform form pitching him headlong to the ground He was knocked unconscious and did not recover for several hours Butler says ho remained with wit the circus until he fully recovered and is now on his way home Butler left eft for lr the east last evening and says he take up the bike racing game again He said that he believed Salt Lake had bad them all beat as a cycling city and that lie 1 intended to lay his plans to come out this way next year and ride |
