Show STATE m mk k i ABUNDANCE Sanpete Valley Being Visited by Daily Floods Dong Doing Much Damage Mt Pleasant Aug ot The upper end of i valley has seen a doren or more core Hoods floods curing the Ib past week every even day bringing one or more from some senie of the mountain streams flow Into the river some pLat Ulace within the sted of or this part ot 01 the stream the an are I by y iund r showers make mako tn lr appearance in different Wins of the valley each afternoon There hag been ho loss of human life but some me narrow escapes have reported Ani mat mal life fife has bce fared worse some horse hoNes having been killed by b lightning strokes during one of the heaviest electric storms which accompanied the rains The storms of Tuesday and Wednesday were the worst and most destructive of any of the week Tuesday afternoon a barn bam belonging to Clar lan once ence Turpin of MilbUrn and burned it to the b ground It contained fifty tons of hay all of which with a few other articles article was a total toes During the same storm a valuable team of horses belonging to S Brady of Fairview was killed by ft second stroke The Tho team was at Mr Bradys farm a tt short distance above and probably five miles ti front from he be scene of the fire Another stroke land 4 1 in a corral nut not far front from Fairview which belongs to Charles Mower Some of the boys of the family who were at he the corral at the time were affected liC y the stroke as were several cows that were near by Both the boys and the animals have re having been only stunned and will feel no Ill effects from the ho experience The poles and wire wires of the Fairview Telephone company which connects Milburn and Fairview were rid died In places by the lightning bolts SeV oral ral floods accompanied this storm flow lag Bg from the various small ravines and canyons but did little damage Wednesday however the storms were itt the form of rain Instead of electricity and the damage was the work of 0 the floods following The Fhe largest one of the day and of bf the week was w one came out of bf the Cedar butt hili west and north of Fairview flowing into the river valley ailey and covering the Tower portion of the valley for miles Hundreds of acres of hay and grain were covered by the mud and debris of the flood and damage amounting g to thousands of oi dollars resulted The creek itself was probably twenty times its normal size for several miles below the point where the flood entered It and it was wan badly swollen far down the valley There was not a creat deal of damage don south tit df the county road leading west fro this hIs city most of It being Im Irn Immediately mediately west of Fairview on the farms there and along the cOUrO of the river riveras as it winds south All farms through which the river in that territory suffered more pr or less damage During one ot of the storms a bridge north of Fairview on the count countr road was tor nf rom its fastenings and washed down the stream about twenty rods Other smaller bridges up And down th the creek weVe were floated away as though they ha bad been so m many mahy feathers Alt Mt Pleasant has been fortunate in escaping without any damage of conse comae consequence quence Pleasant Creek canyon carried one of the smaller floods out into the valley one day but It wa was switched off onto the surrounding vacant land by an obstruction which formed in the chan channel nel and but little damage was done Oth Others ers era of the smaller streams have been filled In hi the same way during the week on both Bides aides of the Valley but no damage has been reported as following as th the chan channels nels have carried the streamy stream pretty well wellIn wellin In mot most instances |
