Show CORNERSTONE Of TEMPLE LAID Mormons of Tenth Ward Are Complimented on New Meeting House SEVERAL SPEECHES MADE SERVICES BRIGHTENED BY EX EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA TRA GOOD MUSIC In the presence of several hundred people at 3 I yesterday after arter afternoon afternoon noon the corner stone of the Tenth ward chapel was wall laid by the of or the tile ward The beautiful new chapel is being erected on the lot adjoining that occupied by b the old chapel near the corner of Eighth East Bast and Fourth South streets The foundation has hall been completed and on it was laid laida a temporary floor to accommodate the choir chot and the speakers The ceremony opened with the sing ing of the hymn How Firm a tion by the choir and congregation C W V Simons high counselor of Lib Liberty Ilbert Liberty erty ert stake then offered the prayer after which Albert E Braby sang sane My y Mountain Home the beautiful compo composition composition composition by Evan Stephens Bishop Joseph Christenson of the Tenth ward then announced that the corner cornor corn or stone atone would be laid by b the ward The corner stone was lifted to place and in it were deposited the standard works of the th Mormon church the Bible the Book of Mor Mormon Mormon Mormon mon the Doctrine and Covenants the Pearl of Great Price and the Mormon hymnal There were also deposited in the corner stone atone relics connected with the early history of the ward records and documents and the signa tures of the members of the ward The stone atone was laid by Joseph Christenson bishop of the ward C S Martin first counselor and Thomas J Davies sec second second second ond counselor coun elor Congratulation Hugh J Cannon president of Liberty Lib Liberty erty stake congratulated the people of the ward on the excellent beginning of the beautiful edifice they were erect I ing and urged that they push it to completion as rapidly as possible He said that in order to complete the building the people must be literal liberal lib ral even though at a personal To many man of the people of the ivar ward warl l liberal donations he said would he hea a sacrifice yet no better sacrifice could be made He said ald that he knew w that he people would be liberal an and 1 that the house of worship would soon be built as aa a monument to their liberality lib liberality liberality Patriarch Joseph E Taylor spoke m nn n the early earl history of the ward He H called to mind the various stages of progress of the increase in numbers and in religious efficiency of the th p pen o ople pie of the ward During his lifetime he said he had attended the laying of f hundreds Js of corner stones atones of edifices great and small dedicated to the M Mar Marmon T mon faith He touched on the sig sin significance of the occasion and complimented complimented the people on their new chapel I Growth of Ward I George G Buckle a member of the high council of ot the stake spoke brief ly on the growth of the ward He said I that this was wal the fourth new meeting I house in the ward ard As Aa Bishop Christ Christenson Christenson Christenson enson was the fourth bishop of the ward there was now he said a house for each bishop New people he said were constantly coming into the ward Old faces were occasionally dropping out and scores of new Dew ones took their places The choir then sang Let the Moun Shout for Joy after which the choir and the congregation sang the Doxology Albert All ert S Reiser Rel er a mem member member member ber of the high council of the stake the benediction The new chapel for the Tenth ward was begun in the early summer The work ork progressed rapidly and the excavation excavation excavation is now completed d and the foun foundation foundation dation built The chapel will be com completed completed completed next ext year The completed cost of the building will Ill be 2000 The building will be a beautiful piece of architecture It will be fin finished finished in brick and stone with beautiful stained glass art windows I |
