| Show Dr F B Short Preaches on one e The Fellowship of Mystery Dr DA Francis Burgette Short delivered J a stirring sermon at the First Methodist church Sunday morning before a large congregation many G A R men and tourists being present taking as his subject The Fellowship of Mystery He said in part taking as his text Eph 1119 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery which from the beginning of ot the world hath been hid in God who crested created all things by Jesus Christ ChristA A mystery Is that something which has been arbitrarily concealed which may be sought nought sou ht after alter and which may mayor or ormay ormay may not be revealed or discovered dl covered The earth the air all and the sea fill bu buge ge with profound mystery Human life lite is a veritable mystery and every parent recognizes this as he watches the growth of the child But the matchless mystery of the ages is the incarnation of God who showed himself to men in the form of ot a man manthe the man Christ Jesus This mystery is known but Is not comprehended With It one ODe may have and hold bold blessed fellowship but can not fathom its blessed ble sed depths Herein lies its ItA charm harm But the fact of Its mystery often baffles men m n and confuses them and sometimes discourages them Simply because be use they can not grasp that life even as 88 other lives are grasped and even they are only partly compre handed many give up the search after it This is 18 no time nor place for dis discouragement discouragement Mystery is but an opportunity opportunity opportunity for broader knowledge greater wisdom and stronger manhood Where mystery holds sway there is your chance to soar aloft in the realm of enlightenment advancement and vic vie victories vIctories tories for the race Christian Life Not Theory The life lICe of Ch t is io not theory but fact That it has greatly bewildered the world is because of irreconcilable differences among theologians Each age has had Its different schools of theories and doctrines and dogmas and I they have wrought a splendid work I doubtless but they can not satisfy the hunger of the human heart Only truth troth will satisfy the heart life To understand the purpose e and the plan of redemption one needs to catch the spirit of that triumphant note that thatis is w sounding around the earth God so loved the world that he gave save his only i begotten Son Love That is the uni universal i versal note It always seeks to express itself and it is seen nowhere better than thanIn In the Incarnation Love never seeks how little It can do but rather how much it At can do And all aU it can do it does with supreme delight Herein is revealed the spirit which dominates the life of the soldier and the undying love and activity of parent for the child Herein is revealed the mystery of or the cross croes upon which our Lord died He so loved Man needed not simply an expiation he needed also an abiding personality to fellowship with his life in order that he might walk upright before both men and amI God This comes to men through the Third Person of the Trinity Thus man may fellowship f with the mystery of ot the Godhead and the love which this mystery has revealed is the only power which h has ever undertaken to success successfully successfully successfully fully unlock that other mystery the vast unseen Men are ever looking Into the future They gaze Into the mists miste and mazes until the brows grow wrinkled and the eyes dim but very little have they yet et learned of that country beyond Logic brings us very little comfort philosophy philosophy philosophy phy has very little inspiration for us usand usand usand and the variety of theories which men mendi discuss di cuss leave us hopeless and alone But let one get into harmony with God and fellowship with his hia mystery m by obedi obedience obedience obedience ence to those laws that make for right righteousness righteousness and he will soon rejoice in the ever blessed truth that the Fathers love will lead him to the house of many mansions |
