students composing the tM Class of W 19 of C the Salt S lt Lake High school were graduated from the Institution at the sixteenth annual commencement ment exer exercises elsee cl es held In the Colonial theatre yester yesterday yesterday ester esterday day afternoon Till Thie is Ia 11 the largest class that ever left eft the school schol The commence commencement meat ment exercises were simple but Impressive Impressive sive The large theatre the tre was filled from the pit to the gallery with the students of ot the High school and friends of the young graduates The commencement program consisted of speeches class songs ones and the presen presentation presentation tation of A Day at the Salt Lake High School Superintendent D H Christen Christensen sen awarded the diplomas He made a speech In which he referred r to the high efficiency of the High school and the faculty 4 bd d be he spoke sp ke words of praise of the work being carried on there He also paid a tribute to the late Judge H HP HP HP P Henderson who was president of the board of education at the time of his death Following his remarks he read the names of graduates and they filed past put him and received their diplomas while the orchestra played a tuneful march The most entertaining feature of the program was A Day ay In the High School This represented eight scenes of everyday life lite at the school by groups grOUP of students In clever sketches In show showing showIng showing ing the art department eight students sketched the portraits of eight of the members of the faculty The gym gm girls gave a drill and dance One of the most entertaining tableaux was given by the cadets Here the seniors had some good takeoffs on the camp tamp life of the cadets The Too other scenes scene were domestic science typewriting manual training and labora laboratory laboratory tory tor Plea for New Building During the exercises the class presented the school with a 8 beautiful red and black flag with S L valedictory address was given by b Miss lava Eva Kessler Harry Swem president of the graduating class made the opening address in which he welcomed the per persons sons eons present and explained the attendance ance ante which necessitates the use of dark and unsuitable rooms for various pur purposes purposes poses Another serious want is an as assembly assembly assembly room roam which ts Lq large enough for forthe forthe forthe the whole student body The buildings are aN too far apart The Science building is nearly two blocks from the Union and for this reason reci recitations
