Show I II I I I i ii ELLING SPEECH i MADE BY DRY BRYAN AN Taft Bonaparte and Fairbanks Ridiculed for their Re Recent ReI Recent Recent I I cent Utterances A Omaha Nov Noy 2 W J Bryan spoke tonight at the Auditorium in this city to a crowd which put standing room at a premium even ip iu that vast build building building building ing and one which greeted every tell telling telling telling ing point in his address with vigorous applause Mayor Dahlman presided at atthe atthe atthe the meeting Despite the fact that th Mr Bryan had delivered nine speeches in inas inas II as many towns in the northern part of the state today he was in good voice I and showed no sign of fatigue I Mr Bryan Br an referred re erred to recent t speeches made by Vice Tice President Fairbanks I Secretary Bonaparte and and Secretary I Taft dwelling especially on the speech I Irea made rea de by Secretary Taft at Omaha night before last He pointed out that all of them referred to the trust ques question question question tion and while recognizing the im importance importance of the subject presented no remedy He ridiculed Mr suggestion that the important thing was to keep the big trusts from crowd crowding crowding ing lug out the little ones on os the secretary having compared the big trusts to hogs that crowd the little ones away from the trough Mr lIr Bryan said he was reminded of the lady who was trying to impress upon her little boy bo the sufferings of the Christian martyrs by showing him a picture of lions devouring the Chris Christians Christians Christians The boy looked at the picture a moment and then pointed to one lion and anti said I Why there is one poor little lion that is not getting a bit Secretary concern said he lIe seems to be that some of the small trusts are not getting their share He characterized Secretary Taft as the selected successor of President Roosevelt but charged that though the secretary had been exposed to all the reforms which the president advocated he had not caught any of them He characterized the speech as asa asa asa a defense of the trusts and an apology for them rather than a denunciation of them saying the only warmth the sec see secretary secretary manifested was when he insist insisted ed that they should be regulated rather than destroyed |
