Show BRIEF SKETCH OF LIFE OF JOSEPH E ELLIS joseph E ellis was born in south bountiful now known as woods cross sixty six years ago the of la aalt 1 t march was the i son of john and harriet ellis who came to the valley in 1852 at the age of 1 sixteen ix teen he was left without ai father h his mother ther preceded him years ago at th age of 21 he married tiar riet net elnora burnham brnham amil daughter 3 liter I 1 1 of luther S and abd charlott chariotte tr r arn ham who came cam to the v 1 I 1834 1854 and wj h atoo 1 h h hardships 0 of f vio pioneer neer d 1 in 1876 mr ellis and one little son e c 1 i little home oti on the fi i 1 il I and alkali land west of ff woods woodi cross known know as the 1 I 1 adan river bottoms botta many told hm he would fail a as s the soil was al kaline and na no water for arrita tion or llo household purposes but he developed develop edthe the soil and built a comfortable home he was one of the first to develop artesian water he had a hard struggle laboring many a day for 50 cents per day ile he was very considerate and saving which spelled success for him finally other settlers settler came in and built quite a village which is known as Burnham ville after living there 40 years and raising a family of eight children 5 boys and 3 girls who traveled from 3 to 5 miles to and from school for their schooling he sold his ranch and bought a little home near woods cross and had retired from active labor and was enjoying god health and hap ile he was i a man for his wife and family taking much en doing little odd jobs for them tham he was a man of quiet and pleasing disposition and tried to do unto others as he wished to be done by he was was highly respected and honored by all who knew him I 1 ile he wa was s visiting 9 llis his two 0 located at Syra edse and was ton on 30 ying the best ot oi neatta up until a half hour before his death when he complained of a pain near his heart a and nd down his left arm which continued until the last ile he was removed to his hia home at woods cross where the funeral services were held and the last tributes were paid the attendance was large ani and the floral offerings were many and beautiful ful which bespoke of the esteem and respect of his relatives and friends his neighbors though neighbors but 1 a I short time made the remark that the sunshine of their surroundings roun dings was gone which lie he brought into the homes there were many men of his acquaint ence w with I 1 ith tear dimmed eyes who attended the services the speakers were henry W stahle stable of east bountiful bishop mi mailer iler of syracuse and bishop samuel howard of woods cross who showed honor and respect to the manhood char character deter of the decease ed joseph E ellis and gave we words ads ot of comfort to the wife and family and relatives and friends who were left to mourn |
