Show stake outing proves success boy scouts score the south davis stake it 1 I A outing in weber canyon on july proved to be one of tile the most successful outings from the standpoint of stake represents tion and activity that has been held in years the only people who failed to enjoy the day to the utmost were those who did not go to the canyon the excursion was started in earnest s sixty ix ty of tile the boy scouts and scout learners lear ders left the stake on thursday evening bound for tile the canyon to prepare the way for the automobile caravan that was to leave bountiful centerville Cent erville and farm in ington ton in their respective order 0 on n the morning of july loth the canyon was reached without a mishap camp was made and these sixty young 1 stalwarts stal warts settled do down wit for tile the night in early morning each was assigned his repe etive tive duty in the main that of getting out material for the construction of a foot fool bridge across the weber river river plans for his work I 1 iad had been carefully made and wel were e carried out to the letter under the diree tion of alvin sessions deputy scout commissioner when night fell a substantial foot bridge one hundred and twenty five feet in lenth length ii water as much as four feet in in depth had been built across the roaring weber A monument to the scouts of south davis and a boon to the excursionists who arrived on the scene the following morning the day was spent i in n field lay day sports rest and camp style sociability ci the scouts furnishing furnishing furn ishin 13 a snappy pro program 0 ram of sports di displaying s the real ability of trained scouts ats the bountiful first ward scouts earring off the honors winning 11 by a small margin the teamwork of these scouts 1 under the efficient coaching of scout waster master la star mar barlow was impossible to overcome police duty was performed by ba the west bountiful troop under the leadership of pat patrol rol leader jimmy eldredge patrol leader george ellis eilis showed wonderful executive ability in supervising the south bountiful scouts scout masters ira 0 curtis of bountiful and frank S grant of centerville Cent erville scored success in the supervision of the bridge building crew the farmington scouts under tinder scoutmaster sohn john R walsh arrived on the scene only to find the bridge complete but in time to give the other scouts a real contest for honors in the sports this troop has every scout in ill full uni uniform dorril an achievement only equalled equal led by two other troops in the salt lake council approximately four hundred made the trip to weber canyon in recognition of the services of the boys scouts of south davis on july the following letter was received by deputy commissioner sessions from major chas it mabey ent of the south davis stake 31 1 I A vuly july 13 1920 alvin sessions director of the boy scouts south davis stake utah D dear car comrade i I 1 cannot at this time contain myself without further expressing a my appreciation and wonder at the way in which the boy scouts of taij th H stake under your direction and that of their various scout masters attended to the needs of the people in weber canyon durina our recent outing T in going over the whole affair from beginnings begin beginning to end I 1 can recall nothing that was left undone and nothing that could have been done bettea better it has been ray my pleasure during ing the last twenty five years to have ave seen much of the military life and military work and I 1 am certain I 1 am not overstating over it when I 1 declare that the bridge thrown across the river and the appointments of the camp in other particulars met with every requirement qui rement of tile lie profession heres to the scout of south davis heres to every scout in ill every land heres to the fellow that smiles smile win vin or lose in evera game I 1 salute every one of them with land hand and heart sincerely CHAS R MABEY |
