council last wednesday night to discuss the advisability of appointing a special deputy town marshal to patrol the business section of town at night all deemed it to be to the best interests of the town to have such a man at first it was suggested that the licenses paid by the several business houses be increased so as to meet part ot this increased indebtedness but some business men said they already paid large amounts of money to insure them against robbery it was found that if the licenses were doubled lesu less than per annum would be raised which would impose quite a burden upon the storekeepers who already have keen competition from the city merchants upon whom licenses are botany loti lotier longer er impo impola ea it ii d this should bp bf a hafl aiji for merchants and others to come to to do business and that the main benefit would be to the town and not to so much to any business houses that it was agreed that the most equitable way would be to baythe pay the expense from the general fund although it will increase taxes a little the making of the appointment is is no now up to the city council it was sug suggested sted that t they ey would have to pay a deputy ni
