Show EAGLES HOLD SERVICES Impressive Memorial Exercises in Lodge Hall Address on Friend Friendship Friendship Friendship ship by br Rev Mr Carver Ogden aerie acne of or the Fraternal Order of Eagles observed their annual memorial day services in the Eagles hall hail on street commencing at 3 yesterday afternoon In addition to the members of the local lodge and arid their fam fain there were many of their friends in attendance and the hall bail was crowded to the doors The services were impressive A lengthy and meritorious was rendered The services were commenced with a selection entitled Some Time Wo Well iI Un rendered by Mrs Jones JonOs and Miss Hancock The opening announce ment was then made macic by b President J 5 C Gasberg which was followed by prayer by D C McGill ill chaplain of the lodge When the Mists Have Rolled Away Awa was sung by Mrs Jones and Miss Hancock Past President Earl R Geiger delivered an address on Our Duty Today Toda Fleet As a Bird was sung sling by b Miss Hancock Secretary D T Tracy read the names of the absent members and then made a talk on Our Absent Brothers Only one member T J Kurtz Kurts of the aerie acne had passed away past year After Some Sweet Day Da Bye and Bye was sung by Mrs Jones Rev Re John E Carver of the First Presbyterian church of Ogden delivered the memorial day oration The general course of his theme was Friendship He said Days Da s like this ar are of value alue because of the friendship which they the foster and the brotherly love which they cement Friendship is one of the greatest blessings that God has given to man That man Is rich who is rich In friends and that man is poor who has no friends eyen een e en though he may be rich in worldly treasure Cicero wrote the great classic on friendship Yet the most common man who has one true friend knows in his heart the value alue of friendships tie as well wen as classic pen can depict it It Is lifes friendship that changes dull duB routine dark trial grim de despair despair despair and steady toll toil into a life of con Some time ago we noticed an Oriental weaver weaving a beauteous tapestry the most of it is composed of dull course thread somber in shade and tive to t view but through it all he was entwining beauteous strands of scarlet gold Into figures of rare richness and beauty so that when the work was corn com completed it was an object of rare attractive attractiveness ness Such we thought is the place of friendship in human life The most of our life Ufe is commonplace and sad with sorrow or made heavy with care Failure deepens lifes mo monotony monotony monotony Into a life like Uke this friendship comes like the beauteous strands in the tapestry and changes the toilsome and commonplace into joy and contentment Let us treasure then the memory of our friends as a sacred heritage Let us think of them as part of Gods choicest gifts to tous us 15 let Jet us see in them a manifestation of his love At the close of Mr nIr Carvers remarks the closing exercises of the organization were conducted and the entire assemblage e joined in singing Nearer My God to Thee after which the was pronounced |
