Show I I OF TH UNION LABORERS General Welfare of the Coun Country Country Country try Sought With Necessary S Special Legislation X Indianapolis Feb 6 John Mitchell Ii ell president of the United Mine line Workers When asked today in regard to the ru rumors rumors mors to the effect that there had been inaugurated during the recent Mine MineWorkers MineWorkers Workers convention a movement to Indorse the candidacy of ot certain ertain aspirants aspIrants aspirants ants for the presidency of the UnIt States and for other political pol offices stated that so far as he know there was no foundation for these rumors He said however that the members of the Miners union together with all trade unions affiliated with the Amerlean Amer American AmerIcan ican lean Federation af Labor were inter interested Interested Interested ested actively in the election to all ex cx executive executive judicial and administrative of offices offices flees of men who were known to be Sympathetic to the th l reasonable demands of the tho wage earners of the country It follows therefore said Mr lIr Mitchell that they would oppose the candidacy of ot aspirants for honors who are known to be b unsympathetic unsympathetic unsympathetic pathetic or antagonistic to the labor movement Matter of Self Protection This activity on the part of ot the or organized organized and to a less extent on the part of the unorganized workers of our country Is not a partisan movement I think there ther Is little possibility of the labor organizations entering the po political utica field from a party standpoint st In common with other citizens the working men seek the general welfare of our country and at the same time they ask such special legislation as Is necessary for the protection of their own lives and the preservation of their own health so far as these ends may maybe mo maybe be secured by legislative enactment In other words the laboring men believe bellee that officers of the law lw l w whether they the thebe be high or whether they be low should be especially solicitous for fO r the welfare of ot the members of ot the society who are least able a le to serve themselves |
