Show RAILROAD YARD YM CONTROL Union Railway Depot Company Takes Management From Southern Pacific The Harriman lines centered in this I city several days ago decided upon a change which pas has since been put Into effect that considerably changes the lo ho local local cal railroad situation Effective Feb 1 the large yards ards at this point were turned over to the management of the Union Railway Depot company This carries with It a force of many man men and nd a pay payroll payroll a aroll roll averaging about a month Originally the Harriman yards at this point were divided being under the control of the Union Pacific and the theother theother other half under the management of the Southern Pacific When the consolida consolidation tion was made about four years rears ago and the Oregon Short Line took over that portion of the between this city and Sparks Nev and between Ogden and Green River yo on the Union Pacific the Ogden yards ards came un under under der den the jurisdiction of that line About the first of the year ear when the territory between Ogden and Green RiVer went back to the Union Pacific proper the management of the yards was left heft to the Southern Pacific under which It has been boon operated up to the present time The ob oh objection o to this method was that th t the dis dig distance distance tance was so great between here h re and the tle headquarters of that company In San Francisco Under the new management this objection objection objection tion will be entirely overcome for the reason that all aU of the accounting and ald adother other work formerly formed done at a San Fran Frati Francisco cisco will be handled In Ogden It Is ru rumored rumored rumored mored that there Is something more be behind behind behind hind the change than appears sur surface surface surface face and that within a short time other orders will be made that will further affect local railroad conditions This however is denied by the time officials of the Union Railway Depot company com pan It is announced that those thosa having charge of the handling h of the yard ard forces will virtually virtual the same as during the past month This 1 is Is accounted for by bythe bythe bythe the fact tact that the superintendent of the Pacific is also superintendent of the depot company The new order of things Will wm however add considerable considerable work to the office of F P N Hess auditor a of dining car and hotel accounts Mr Hess Is also secretary and auditor of the Union Depot company and amI the auditing for the tho local yards ards formerly done In San Francisco Fran isco will naw be handled In his of office flee fice The juggling about of the management of the yards is taken to mean that as asyet aset asyet yet et no way that has proven satisfactory has been hit upon About all nil of the lines connected with that system out of here have had a try Tit itt it and apparently have hare failed to give entire satisfaction It is not unlikely unlike that a system that Is ln vogue In many other important railroad centers will be put Into inta force under the present management If It this Is done it will mean some additional officials and a n complete change in the methods employed |
