Show I THE MAIN QUESTION I Tomorrows election is to determine the of the business management for the two WG years beginning on Jan 1 next It will decide whether the city is to have hae another two years of American extravagance and misrule or whether its finances are ale to be administered by competent men regardful of the law lav and find bent only on giving good public service at the lowest J west possible cost The one on important question to be settled by the voters is Which candidates will be the best men mento mento mento to transact the business i a S The Americans insist that Salt Lake must be saved and they are the ones to save it H i Saved from what From an overdraft of over in the general funds I From Prom the memory of Sheets and Thompson 1 N From Prom a repetition of ot the donation to Pat Moran for plastering a conduit that should not have needed plastering From Prom the rule of a party whose candidates are pledged to bar men from public employ because of their religious beliefs i From the certainty that taxes will have to be raised again if the Americans are retained in office If these are the tIle things from which the tIle city is to be saved and they certainly are then the party responsible for them deserves only condemnation and defeat 0 In behalf of their candidate the Republicans advance no plea of fitness for the office no argument argument argument ment that Plummer wil make the best mayor They ask support because they allege Plummer is the man to beat Bransford They do not claim that Plummer is qualified nor do they urge that his experience adapts him for the office because any such claim would be challenged c and refuted at once Every voter in Salt Lake knows that Morris alone of the three Candidates has had the train training training ing best fitted to make a good mayor that he knows the business in every detail and that he heis heis heis is unquestionably the best of the three candidates before the people If there were a question only of fitness apart from politics Morris would have more votes than both the other candidates together He ile is immeasurably stronger as a candidate than Plummer so much stronger that it is only a question as to whether Bransford or Morris is to be mayor and the final determinatiOn n of the question rests with the independent vote i l 0 0 t I It is plain that most of the people of Salt Lake desire earnestly an administration which shall be identified with no faction or clique an administration which will stop extravagance and graft which will not increase the treasury deficit and which will employ men not because of their re religious religious creeds but because of their efficiency honesty and energy Such an administrations pledged by the Democratic party and its nominees are the kind of men to carry out the pledge R P Morris the head of the ticket is known to the citizens as an exceptionally good executive a man who is familiar with the duties of the mayor and whose name is a guarantee of clean honest businesslike methods His associates are all good men trustworthy responsible No o better ticket has ever been named in Salt Lake and few have equalled it in the standing of tie ie e individuals composing it If the city ever needed ne ded careful management it needs it now No good business man is advising extravagance nowadays nowa ys rather the is practicing practicing practicing economy reducing its indebtedness restricting expenditures and sailing close to the wind In Salt Lake only one party the American advocates unlimited outlay and disregard of business prudence pruden With an enormous confronting them they alone laugh at the demand for careful car ful administration and jeer je r at those citizens who believe it a good time to be cautious in finan financial cia cial matters The Democratic candidates stand for economy without parsimony for progressive improvements without violation of the statute limiting the indebtedness In other words the Democratic ticket promises an administration n on sound business principles and for that reason reason if for no other it deserves i the support of cy 33 citizen I It II Ir IP J 1 t I J I r I P |
