Show GRANDMA THARP DEAD Ogden Woman Passes Away at Age of 94 Years After ninetyfour years of life Mrs Sarah Moats Tharp died last evening at atthe atthe the home of her daughter Mrs J A Smithy Smiths street Funeral services will be held at that place Fri Friday day March 10 at 1030 a m at Mrs Tharp or as she was familiarly known ma Tharp was an interesting charac character character ter and had a fund of reminiscences coy cov covering ering the tho greater part of the nineteenth century She was born May 1511 at Zanesville O 0 being 5 weeks old when the United States declared war against Great Britain and 6 months old when General Harrison defeated Tecumseh She had lived under the administrations of presidents and had vivid recollections of events which happened In every administration from that ot of James Monroe down to and including that or of Roosevelt Mrs Thur Tharp was married when IS years of age to Abner Tharp For eight years vears they lived at West Liberty O 0 moving in 1838 with her and five children to Savannah Da Davis is county Iowa Mr Tharp died there in February 1861 1551 leaving his wife a widow at 40 years with eleven children For the past thirty five years she has made her home with her daughter Mrs James A Smith of Ogden Ogdon coming here a number of years ago from the east She came of a long lived family several of her brothers and ana sisters living to be over 80 50 years of age In May Mav of 1902 when a circular letter was sent out by the old lady to her numerous descendants she had grand grandchildren grandchildren children Her end wits was peaceful anti and attended by almost no suffering |
