'Ten were killed in Senorita valley on the 4th instant, and the work was still going on. Governor Saflord has sent a message to the legislature, recounting re-counting the depredations and murders mur-ders committed, dwelling on the in- 1 efficient manuer in which militarv , operations are being conducted, the 1 troops moving slowly with heavy trains are unable to reach a mere mobile enemy, recommends legislation legisla-tion to memorialize tha secretary of war, asking the appointment of a body ot Indian scouts to operate with the troops, or else to appropriate money to raise and equip a force of whites and friendly Indians, and carry on a vigorous campaign. He says as the military operations have been conducted tor the lost six months the whole array of the United States could not subdue the hostile in the next twelve years. While that believing a scouting party of twenty-five twenty-five citizens and as many Indian auxiliaries could accomplish the work in three months, he expresses the fear that under the present eoudition of; aflairs southeastern Arizona must be abandoned by the settlers, and the success of the hostile would be liable to induce au outbreak among the reservation Indians, resulting in a general war. |
