Show la Bad Cumpauy, Only. Fakmisgtos, Davis Cocnty, May 24th, 1876. Editors Herald: In your issue of the semi-weekly of i to-day, I see a communication signed 1 ' Jug 'em," in which my son Lemuel is classed with Henry Jenkins as a herder and cattlo thief. Evidence was brought befaro the justice's court at the trial which showed that Lemuel bad stayed over night at a herder's camp while on his way to Cache valley; that he knew nothing as to the ownership of the calf that was killed, other than that it belonged be-longed to Mr. ShurilifT, for whom Jenkins was herding, but as he acknowledged to helping skin the calf, and to being in Jenkins' company, com-pany, an equal fine was inflicted. Lemuel is not a herder, but has just left school, and was goiug to Cache county ou business for me, when be unwittingly placed himself in the d sagreeaulo position above slated. As regards his being sent to : prison, tho statement is also incor-, rcct, as I went his security for the fine an 1 he was released. j L, G. Rice, 1 |
