Show On Tuesday next at noon the Louisiana stato bouse will be cleared of the federal troops which have ao long made it possible for Mr. Packard and his legislature to claim tho title to ft shadow of a state government. The gallant General NicholU will then bo in undisputed possession ol the government, and the last remnant rem-nant of trto carpet-bo-; power in the south will havfl vanished. All's well that ends well; though the same result re-sult would havo been naturally reached three or lour years ago but for tho moddlesomo uplifted hand at Washington. That the south will gradually get accustomed to the situation, situa-tion, and bo governed wisely and well thero is little reason to doubt, though for years movo or less race disturbance disturb-ance may bo looked for. |
