Show Charles Thorpe, better known as "Champagne Charley," recently died in London. He was a genial, jovial gentleman, and despite his spendthrift characteristic, waB possessed pos-sessed of a good deal of ability and culture. His father gave him $50,-000 $50,-000 a year, which instead of being a benevolent, generous act, was a curse to the young man, who led a gay, frivolous career for a brief period, and has now died at the early age ot 34 years. However, "Champagne Charley" has gone into history, the song of which Thorpe was tho hero being yet popular, both in Europe and America. |
