Kx -Mayor ISall. London, 31. When Hall or Sut-cliffe, Sut-cliffe, arrived at the custom station, he employed a porter who look two black Japeuese leather carpet bags, marked G. and a roll of rug. They walked to the Gower street station of the Metropolitan underground railway, rail-way, where the porter left the traveler, trav-eler, who took a third class ticket for Nottingham Rate station. He was evidently unacquainted with the routo, for he inquired Irequently of his tellow passengers and seemed nervous.- At bis destination he took a hansom cub and drove to fl privato house near by. He was evidently expected its the door opened without a ring or knock, and he passed in immediately with his luggage. He was not met at the station by any acquntutance; at least he was not recognized by any one, so far as could bo seen. The Victotia passenger is above the medium height, dressed as described in a former dispatch, and walks with a swaggering gait. His face, recently clean shaven, is now covered with rough gray stubble. He strenuously denies that he is A. Oakoy Hall. The steward of the Victoria volunteers the statement that "Sutclille was the greatest felloV for making puns I ever met," and an attache ol the associated press who saw and conversed with Sutclifle at Liverpool affirms his confidence that there is no mistako about his being Hall. New York, 31. The steward's statement, telegraphed Horn London, about the di position of the Victoria's paesenger for punning iB a strong confirmation con-firmation that the missing ex-mayor has been found. The Exuress says that the ex mayor left the city and country an he did. and when he did, on account of tho Tweed trial, we think will be made evident to ail when full exposures of tho names aud dates are laid before the public. The statement is made that as much as $800,000 was paid for getting through the Tweed charter, and that members of tho legislature and democrats and republicans shared alike. We hear also of drafts as high ai $30,000, and running down from $20,000 to $5,000, having been paid by a roundabout process through parties who may not have been directly interested, and every draft muBt have borne the signature of Mayor Hull. What has delayed Tweed's release re-lease has been tho necessary reconveyance recon-veyance of transferred property back to himself and by him to the city. It is understood tho Putnam county property is included in the transfer, and that the water privileges of the lakes under the contract are also to be transferred. |
