Show Three Months' Housekeepicg. E.lilors Herald: Alout three months ago, becoming sick of hotel, boarding-house and res- i Uurant life, and being a man without ' family encumbrances, I concluded to take a rest and try the system of housekeeping. I purchased a little furniture, and rented a house of three rooms, not with any particular view 1 of experimenting in household economy, econ-omy, but rather lor the sake of com- ' fort and variety. I have enjoyed my-' self in the lonely style that a man without the society of a family may do, and have been the absolute, owner of my leisure hours and, being my own cook, the keeper of my j stomach. None of my neighbors , have disturbed my quietude and privacy, and "Mrs. Grundy" liaa never been curious enough to enlrr ; ray doors. I have lived well, although I not exactly in the llelmonieo or , Townsend-house style ; but plain ; victuals suit me better than culinary I fripperies, served up by a masculine waiter who watches impatiently every i mouthful eaten. i Now for the nt result: I have, footed up my thirteen Wteks expenditures, expend-itures, including not only everything purchased for consumption in the bouse, but all such items as rout, car (are, washing, beverages and niek- !. nacks, postage stamps, etc., etc , ami fiud a total outlay of $17.80, or at the rate of $7.52 a week, making a saving from the restaurant plan ol living of' enough to furnish my bouse neatly in ; the course of a year, should I perse- j vera in this system. I merely give j this item hoping that it will call out: others. All Alone ! S. L. city, May 10. I |
