V., Aulli-r of 1 "Tim 1mi1(!'h Cunnoun Seiiu Me.dic.ul Adviser," etc., etc. The liver is tho great depurating (purifying) organ of tho system, and has very appropriately been termed tho "housekeeper" of our health. I have observed in the dissecting-room, and also in making post-mortem examinations ex-aminations of the bodies of those wb" have died of different diseases, that in a large proportion of cases, the liver has given evidence of having at some time been diseased. Liver atlections arc equally prevalent in beasts. Every butcher knows that the livers of cattle, sheep and swine are ten times as frequently diseased an any oilier organ. A healthy liver ea.-li day secretes about two and a-b:df puuntis of bile. When it becomes, torpid, conge.-lcd, or if, from any causQ.it bo disabled in the performance perform-ance of its duties, it is evident that tho elements of the bile must remain in tho blood, thus irritating, poisoning, poison-ing, and perverting, every vital pro cess. Nature attempts to rid the system sys-tem of these noxious materials by means of other organs, as the kidneys, lungs, skin, etc., which become overtaxed over-taxed iu performing their additional labor, and are unable to withstand the pressure. The brain, which is the great electrical centre of all vitality, becomes be-comes overstimulated with unhealthy blood, and fails to normally perform its functions. Hence there is dull ness, ueiUKicne, imp iirmeut oi ir.c memory, dizziness, gloomy forebodings, forebod-ings, and irritability ol temper. When the b!t:o:l is diseased, the skin manifests mani-fests discolored spots, pimples, blotches, boils, carbuncles, and scrofulous scro-fulous tumors. Tho stomach and bowels, sooner or later, become affected, af-fected, and constipation, piles, dropsy, dyspepsia, or diarrha'i, is the inevitable inevit-able result. -SVJI1TO.M3 01' UVEli COMt'LALNT: A fallow color of the skin, or yel-lowish-biown spots on tho face and other parts of tiie body; dullness and drowsiness, with irequent headache; dizziness, bitter or bad taste in the mouth, dryness ol the throat, and internal in-ternal beat; palpitation of the heart, a dry, teazing cough, sore throat, unsteady un-steady appetite, sour stomach, raising of the food, and a choking sensation in the throat; eickness and vomiting, distress, heaviness, and a bloated, or lull feeling about the stomach and sides; aggravating pains in the sides, back, or breast, and about the shoulders; shoul-ders; colic pains and soreness through the bowels; constipation, alternating with diarrhiea; piles, flatulence, nervousness, nerv-ousness, coldness of the extremities, rush of blood to the head, with symptoms symp-toms of apoplexy; numbness of the limbs (especially ut night), and chills, alternating with hot dashes; kidney and other urinary difficulties, dullness, dull-ness, low spirits, and gloomy forebodings. forebod-ings.
