Show The Benefit Concert. Mrs. Haydon may congratulate herself on tho success of her benefit concert in the Presbyterian church last evening. The church was filled with music-loving ladies and gentlemen, gentle-men, who were entertained even beyond be-yond their anticipations and who came away lavishing praise upon all who took part in the concert. Much disappointment was felt at the absence ab-sence of Mrs. Careles-j, which, however, how-ever, was unavoidable on account of the lady's sudden indisposition. Tup programme was full, and embraced some of the most beautiful songs, sweetest music, entertaining duets, etc., and all was rendered in a style eaualing the abilities of the Ulan ted vocalists and skilled musicians who appeared. With two or threo exceptions the ladies and gentlemen who sine are so well known to the public that it is not necessary for us to say aught in their praife; however wo will say that Mrs. Haydoo, and Messrs. John Black and R. W. Leaman have seldom excelled their last night's efforts. Mrs. Joseph Siege! is a charming vocalist, and was applauded. ap-plauded. Mrs- H's pupils Miss Emma White and Miss Eva Epley by no means supplied tho least interesting in-teresting part of the concert. Those young ladies have voices which, with ordinary fortune, will win for their fortunate possessors high places in the musical world. Special praise is due to Profes3or Careless and his band and Messrs. Tratt and Kennicott. |
