During the morning hour a number of bills were introduced and relerred, when consideration con-sideration was resumed of unfinished business. The resolution of Davis of West Virginia, providing for the appointment of a committee of senators to inquire into alleged discrepancies in the books and accounts ot the treasury, which alter disonssion was agreed to. It appoints a special commission of five to investigate the treasury books and accounts, especially their differences, differ-ences, discrepancies aod altsrations of amounts and figures, principally in the annual statements. The commission commis-sion has power to send for persons and papers, employ two. clerks and a stenographer, and holds over the present session. Davis of Illinois presented a petition of savings bank depositors for the remission of taxes on the solvent Fidelity bank. Referred. On motion of Windom the senate1 receded from its amendment to tbe appropriation bill which were non-concurred non-concurred in by the house and passed the bill which now goes to the president presi-dent for his signature. The senate then took up the bill to enable Indians to become citizenB. Pendiog its discussion, the senate went into executive session and adjourned. |
