Show Letter froai Grass Vall-jy. Editors Il-.rald: We have bad r.u unusually Lrd winter so far. Snow emmenced falling about Cbiistmas, and has con tinued to fall at short intervals since. It now varies in depth from four to eighteen inches throughout tho valley. val-ley. Tne weather has been intensely in-tensely cold. Some cattle are dying, : and nearly all are poor. There will be no beef lor tiie soring market, except ex-cept a limited number that are being fed. Tne roads are nearly in an impassable im-passable condition. Many uf us would be p!eaed to know why a band of Utc Indians are allowed to remain here, a pest to settlers, and a headquarters for roving and thieving bands from other places. Last fall they fired the timber in' almost every canon from the head of the valley to Panguitch meadows, a distance of fifty miles. Nearly all of the accessible dry timber was burned and much growing timber killed. It seems strange to me that those Indians In-dians are not removed to the reserva tion set apart for their benefit at L'intah. We have no mining excitements here. There are mines at? Mirys-vale, Mirys-vale, but from some cause- no work is being clone. M. Grass Valley, U. T., Feb. 10, 1S7C. |
