The command has since marched fifteen miles to this point, where it has been joined bj the balance of the detachment commanded by Col. Ferry. Tbe officers and men are in excellent health and spirits. Wa move this afternoon to Johnson's ranch, ten miles bevond here. The balance of tbe troop from fort Lapwai are eipecled to-morrow evening, which will place the total force under Gen. Howard, troops and volunteers, at about 500 men. The latest intelligence at bead-quarters bead-quarters from the Indiana is to the effect that Joseph and his followers are encamped near Salmon liver at the moulh of Whitebird creek, about iz miles from the scene of the late light wilb the troops under Col. Perry and eighteen miles from Mount Idaho. They are said to number all the way from 99 to 400 warriors, accounts differing. A great number of renegade Indians from different bands have joined Joseph on Salmon river. Lieutenant Trimble with his company com-pany and a volunteer detachment will to-night be at Slate creek, where about filty citizens have fortified and aeiu me place. General Howard intends to reconnoitre recon-noitre and hold Joseph in check till the balance of the troops trom the ports arrive, when a battle may be expected. No further murders have been reported, though the latest information ts that the Indians an Hangman's creek are getting very reetles and a portion have refused to accept any p;irt of the reservation and left with one ol their peaceful chiefs. It is reported that Joseph ia anxious to have a tight with the troops and he will probably have an opportunity within a few days.
