Show SANPETK. The Liif'cn Homicide County CoiiVLMilion The Ticket Abundant Harvest (Special Coru-p ji.dnee.) Mount Plkakant, July 28, 1S70. It was a piiinful thing to witness the incarceration of so promising young man, nnd of such excellent character, as tho ron of Bishop Peterson Peter-son of Epbraim, in the county jail yesterday. Quite a number of the bebt citizens of Epbraim accompanied. accom-panied. The coroner's jury bad brought in the verdict that Epbraim Laraen came to bia death by a blow from a stick given by this Peter Pntumnn nn Ilio r.vri,im nf the 24th July, lb7G. The examination was had before the justice hence the commitment. com-mitment. It is a very unfortunate a flair, and has produced some rancorous ran-corous feeling una talk, and afflicted the families of all concerned. Yesterday was county convention day at Mauli, which resulted, after much canvassing in gentlemanly and courteous leims, in the following nnniinut.ons : University land cominUaioubrs L. S. Hills, John Rowberry and John Van Cott. Representatives to the legislature Canute Peterson and Franklin Spen- cer. Probate judge Geo. Peacock. Selectmen Honry Beal and C. A. i Madsen. Prosecuting attorney David Cand-land. Cand-land. The usual precinct nominations were handed in by the delegates for II ui purpose ol having the same printed on tho one general "people's ticket." Tbe nominations were enthusiastically voted upon when bo called. A vole of thanks was tendered Mr. Franklin Spencer and Mr. W. J. Reid, as chairman anu secretary oi tne convention, lor the able aud proper manner in which they had discharged their respective duties. Harmony prevailed. Thus were retained to the people the services serv-ices of men who have Bhown themselves them-selves their servants in all weathers and in all gradations of poverty or af fluent county financial conditions. Particularly is this the case relative to Judge Peacock; and in saying this no word of disparagement ot the other nominees for the position is implied. It is to-day one of great importance to the welfare and prosperity of an entire county, and the present incumbent incum-bent has ever Bhown qualifications therefor. The good people of Mant'i have rea-sou rea-sou to be proud of the comfortable, well arranged and appointed courthouse court-house and offices. Immediately opposite is rising in fine proportions pro-portions the city hall, built with that beautiful white rock that lays ao invitingly near. Its progress is somewhat some-what slow. The city fathers desire to lay tbe capstone and enter a completed com-pleted building, free of debt, a condition condi-tion they now enjoy as a city. I omitted to mention that Messrs. Geo. Peacock, J. A. Allred and Henry Beal were duly chosen a central cen-tral committee for this county. The season is now propitious for the gathering ot our abundant bay harvest, har-vest, and in Borne localities the tinge that bespeaks the ripening grain ii already put on. D. O. |
