A terrible storm struck this city to day, by whith sixteen men lost their livosand , half a million dollars' worth of property prop-erty was destroyed. Among tlu.se , killed are Alderman Wat kins, Wiu, Newkirk, Mr. Goodrich, Burton Mas- i terson aud child, Fred. Gerke, George Moore, George Brins, J. A. EJgar, Charlie Norman, and John Tenuis. There is a largo number of wounded, several of whom will undoubtedly die. The bodies of four of the killed were burned. There are at least twenty-five twenty-five still missing. Later information says four more bodies h;ve been found, and two ol the wounded have since died. Ruins of buildings are burning, threatening the total destruction des-truction of the whole town. Among the buildings d est roved are the Pres bvterian and Methodist churches, two schooluouses, tne court house, several stores and residences. |
