Show Base Ball. As announced in Tbursday's Heuald, the Deeerels have completed arrangements with the famous Bed Stockings of Crieytjnne for a aeries of three matches, to be played in this city ou tbe 23d, 2ith aud 2oth of this month. The Rida went down to Denver od the Fourth aud met with the champion club of that place, defeatiug them by a score of 25 to 8. Of Taylor, the pitcher of the Red Stockings, the Denver Tribune, in a report of the game on the Fourth, says: "The fact of the matter is that the Cheyeuue boys are almost too hpavy weights for our home nine, their baiting, at limes, being perfectly per-fectly tfrriiic. The pitching of Taylor, Tay-lor, however, was the winning point, he being perfectly competent to take ! a rank among professional pitchers. ! His command of tho ball seemed uu- limited, as be applied the inner in-ner or outer curve at pleasure, pleas-ure, and delivered tbe ball witb great speed, rendering it almost impoesiolo for an amateur to tell where it was going till too late. Should we again have visitors, we can only hope to be favored with as good a looking, flue playing set of geDtlemea as the Cheyeuue Reds have proved themselves them-selves to be." The Deaerets will strive to niaiaUiu the success wbich has characterized their games witb all clubs they have engaged during the last three years. Tbey will com mence immediately to put them selves in proper trim for the occasion. The members of the club are re-quested re-quested lo be present tbis evening at G o'clock, ou their grounds, aud every evening thereafter, eicept Suu-dy, Suu-dy, to prepare for their games witb the Red Stockings. |
