Show Filiibnsters at Washington. Washington, 9. A large lobby, composed of fiillihustere, holdart of border depredation claims, mining speculators and adventureragenerally, from various parts of the Union ia still at work here endeavoring te maufacture public sentiment ia favor of annexation schemca and to commit the administration to some warlike policy which shall demand of Mexico indemnity for the past and security for the future. They have made no perceptible progrees, but continue their efforts in the hope that eome conflict may occur between Trevino's forces and General Ord's troops near I the Rio Grande, and that war may poasihly thus be precipitated between the United States and the Diaz government, gov-ernment, in which case the fillibuitere by joining with Lerdo might have a chance to obtain and hold Dnasessinn of the northern states, with hopes of their ultimate annexa'ion to this country. This deep laid scheme, however, haa extremely slight proi-pects proi-pects for success, as it is baaed upon the highly improbable assumption that tho Diaz government will court its own overthrow by enforcing tho execution of the warlike ordorB against allowing our troops to pursue tho marauders into Mexico, which were doubtless given to Trevino for home eflect. Well informed observers consider it much more likely that Diaz will take good care to promote hia chances for recognition at the hands of our government by causing Trevino to assiduously cooperate with Ord in repressing the border outrages, and to keep out of the way in case our troopB should at any time deem it necessary to pursue tho maraudors on their own soil. |
