Show A Wonderful Texas Cave.-H. S P. Ashby, who recently visited tbe McCrea Cave in Llano county, writes; "At the entr -nee the cave 'a 12 feet high and 15 feet wide. Many rocks jut out upon either side. One hun dred yards under ground we entered a spacious room 1U0 feet high, 150 feet long, and 40 or 50 feet wide. From the dome hung thousands of lime formations, resembling icicles. Near the centre, on a largo pedeelu, ia what some call a Satan, or bronze figure. We passed on through varied scenery until we came to an upper room. Ne ascended n rugged, slnj pery stairway, come 30 feet high, to this room, which is smaller than any of tho others, it being only about L(l feet long, S high and 7 wide, tto went about a mile under ground, and crossed several pcois of water, some oi ihem very deep. Mr. Farmer, one of the parly, went down to see how deep one of these pools was, but accidentally acci-dentally went down head first, and didn't stay long cnought to learn the exact depth, but, after blowing tnc water out ol his nose, said it wm colder than spring water. One mile within the air was very heavy, and; the water rises to the cave, so wc could go no further. Galveston ' AVin. |
