Wtllft, lieutenant general of the old Nauvoo legion, and second coun- 'sclor to ;Brigliam Young, tho follow- I ing note: j J)ear Sir.- Is the report true that memoers of lb Church of Jesus Christ !of Latter-day Saints, especially those 1 bolongiug to the old Nauvoo legion, 1 Imva resumed their arms and military j drill in various parts of Utah within , the last few weeks? Tho order issued 1 by Colonel Dame shows that Borne companies at least have been commanded com-manded to put themselves in martial order. I am told that similar (lirec-liona (lirec-liona have been diaaominaud throughout through-out the territory. Are yoo aware ol Ihe purpose lor which Colonel Dame's order was issued? Do you know what is intended by militia drills in Utah at the present time? Ia there, in your judgment, any ground for the report that President Young or any other member of tbo Church ol Jeaus Christ of Latter-day Saints would attempt reaiatance in an extremity to the opt rations of United Slates laws? There ie no intention on the part of Brigham 1 Young to resist tbe laws nor doeb anybody intend resistance to them on bis behalf. VVe should only be too 'glad to see the laws enforced. Col.
