Show Archbishop Buyttjy'n Faueral. Baltimore, 9. Tho obaequies of Archbishop Bayley took place this morning at tho cathedral, and were intended by thousands ol persons. Cardinal McOloskey, thirloeu archbishops arch-bishops and bishops, and a very large number of clergymen assisted at tho services. Governor Carroll, Attorney General Gwinn and Mayor Latroba were present. The services lasted frnm fi 30 till nearly noon. Bishop Wood of Philadelphia was celebrant of the mass and Biahop -Foley ol Chicago preached the sermon. The casket was removed from the cathedral to the hearse at the close of the services and borne in procession tojthe Union depot. Kor an hour before the proceision moved the streets were .thronged with people. There must have been 10,000 along the line, a large majority of whom were ladies. The procession and cortege cor-tege moved very slowly, and were over an hour in reaching the depot. By the time it arrived there the streets were almost impassable on account of the crowds, and it was with difliculty the sidewalks could be cleared to enable the procession to file into the grounds at the station. Five handsome hand-some coaches were in waiting at the tttatiou. The remains were placed on board ond the train moved oil. The cnrdinal, bishops and many of the clergy accompanied the funeral train to Eiumettsburg to assist in laying the remains of the heleved archbishop to rest. Emmeltsburg, Md., 9. The body of Archbishop Bayley was suitably in terred here to-day in the crypt of tho beautiful burial place ot St. Joseph. |
