Show Salt Lake Trunk Factory. - Tbe Herald about one year ago noticed the fact that J. H. Clemeot-shaw, Clemeot-shaw, who had then- fust arrived in this city, had manufactured bis first trunk, which he exhibited in this office. It was a good trunk, and h said he intended to commence a business busi-ness in a small way, as he waa without with-out capital in tbe Bhape of cash, j though be had the best of capital in a good head, a useful trade, aod plenty of ambition and energy. Since that time we bad heard little of Mr. C, until yesterday, when we called at bis factory on Second South street, where half a dozen Utah boys were busily at work, learning the trade of trunk-making. The proprietor informs in-forms ub that he has sold over 4,000 truoks during the year, that his wholesale business is large, and that many merchants prefer the Utah trunks to those from tbe eastern factories. fac-tories. This experience showB that Utah is a good market for the things she needs, that times are not so bard as they seem, when it comss down to the wants of tbe community, and that a good home-manufactured article is appreciated at home. Mr. Clement-ohaw's Clement-ohaw's advertisement will be found in another column. ' |
