Show City Council. Meeting of the city council Tuesday Tues-day evening, Mayor Little presiding: presid-ing: Petition of Philip Pugsley and seven others, asking that the canal on Seventh West atreat, north of Ninth , North, be cleaned and repaired, w.w referred to tho ' committee on ini-I ini-I provemcnts. Petition of J.H. Rumell for tho privilege priv-ilege of using sufficient water to run n 10 inch turbine whoel, at the corner of Seventh South and Tenth East streets, eaid privilege not tn interfero with irrigation rights, referred to tho committee ou improvements. On petition of Dr. A. W. Calder bis dentist and water licenses were transferred to Dr. Stanley Clawson. The committee on streets aud allej'8 to whom was referred the petition of John T. Thompson and otheri, asking that a certain stredt ou the 19th waid bench be that the petitioners have the privilege ot paying their oity taxes for 1S77, by repairing the street in question. Adopted. The conituittae on improvements, to whom was referred the petition of 1 Mrs. C. Kimball and others, asking that a certain Btreet in Plat E, Salt Lake city survey, bs declared closed aud the land be apportioned among the owners of the adjacent lots, recommended that the prayer of the petitioners be granted, provided they procured for the corporation a deed ior a two rod Btreet in the vicinity, designated in the report. Adopted. ; The assessor and collector presented 1 the assessment roll for 1877, and , asked that the rate of taxation be fixed for tha year. The rate was fixed al i of 1 per cent, and August 21st, at 2 p.m. was set for hearing and determining complaints a to assessments. Tbe salary of the assessor and collector was placed at $2, GOO, this sum to include clerk hire, and pay for asaasing and collecting water taxes as well as oity tana. Alderman Pyper'a police court report re-port for June showed that during tha month 89 cases had been tried, $499.75 collected in cash fines and i4i in labor hces. lhe report was accepted. Tho f)!lowing bills for June were presented and allowed : Marshal's expenses, 309.42; tire department, $166.20; gas, $1,109 80; board of city prisoners, 1,947 meals at 15 cents, $292 05; boird, care and treatment of two insane patients, $08.60; police sal-aries, sal-aries, $9,2S1; janitor at city hall, $30; guarding water tanks and lighting oil street lamps, $G0; labor on Union square, $78; collecting dog tax, $33. The matter ef further improving Union square at present was referred to the committee on improvements, together with a proposition to lay down concrete walks through the square.
