Show 0DR BEAVER LETTER. Granite District Its Lotion, Mines, Developments, Quality and Quantity of Ore. A Good Deal of "Stufliing" and Considerable "Truck." Ouo Spicer, With Ilia Jlob-nnil Jlob-nnil Ntofiua, U'ullttf all Over the ltoj-nl icnr. . Spuria! Corrcspenduncu of tho LTjcbaldJ Beaver, Jan. 17, 1875. Granite district is in a mineral range of mountains, from twelve to fourteen miles west ol this city; it also joins Lincoln district en the east and in the eaine range. I made a trip to Granite a few days ago; went out behind a spanking team, consisting consist-ing of an old brown mule called "Bon Butler" and a dancing grey mare named "Susan B. Anthony." They made up a "foxy" team could go four minutes inside of a mile easy, and have considerable time left. But we got there and found, many mines. THE FORMATION. The formation of tho mountain is p granite old grey granite with the t graphic and oolytic. The mines are . mostly in a belt of white rock, com- posed of limestone, heavy spar (baryta), fluor spar and dolomite. This belt is only about 1,000 feet wide, but extends the length of the mountain, or at least for ten or twelve . mileq. THE ORES OF OKA KITE are a queer lot, such as I have seen in no other district. This is .probably .prob-ably owing to their having the characteristic char-acteristic of being largely made up of the ore of zinc, bismuth, cobalt, cadmium cad-mium and other novelties. I might add that it is reported they have circium, irridium, gold, molydinum, valerian, majorium, brittainium, bel- : gium and elecampane, and I should I nut wonder if they had, and more too. Of the mines I visited I will mention men-tion the following: IN NORTH CAMP IS THE Grant lode; shaft, ten feet; narrow vein, at bottom about one loot of ore, in white country rock; gangue and baryta. The vein can be traced for 300 feet on the surface; grade is high. Sample assays run $200 to $300; milling mil-ling rock. Reed lode has one shaft fifteen feet and one Bhaft ten feet; vein about one and a half foot wide; contains niivoi giauto, guiena auu cmoriae, with but little lead; grade high; assays $2-40 and carries some gold. Jupiter lode has a shaft twenty-five twenty-five feet; vein from four feet to five feet wide, regular on surface; several tons on dump; assays $65. The "truck" from this mine beats me; 'think it is cuprouB bismuth, with zinc and cobalt. 1 Vesus lode has a Bhaft thirty-three thirty-three feet, but I don't think they will every strike anything but dolomite or baryta. Kjcoa Lode, open cut, 15 feet on steep hill; narrow vein, in small knife blade seamB of very rich galena, silver glance nd antimonial silver; assays from $175 to $250. It is the first mine discovered in district, dating irom 1865 or earlier. Robin Hood Lode haB two cuts in small sheets of rich ore, much like the Keyes. . Reed & Hard's Lodi is a splendid prospect, but not much worked; shows good galena and looks like the discovery of a good mine. Gilbert Lode has a abaft 22 feet on a vein 2i feet wide of cuprous bismuth with zinc, cobalt, cadmium, etc.; assays 12 per cent, bismuth and $5 silver. Lynx Lode has a shaft over 20 feet on a two-foot vein. It is poor "stuff" to my notion; mixture of zinc and worthless metals. Black Warrior Lode has a big cut, wide and deep. The ore is a mixture of black jack micacious iron and iron oxyds. I don't go much on it. SOUTH CAMP. The Bismuth Mot, being the old Gentle Mary, is the most noted mine in the district, it being the famous bismuth mine of Utah of which so much has been heard, and of which Dr. Winalow and J. B. Meader were the owners. It waa relocated on the 1st instant under the new name of Monitor Lode. It has a shaft or incline in-cline 115 feet deep, of which 75 feet follows the ore. The vein is well worked and traceable on the surface; has four cuts or shafts .to prove its strike; vein from 2 feet to 3 feet at the top, and said to be from 5 feet to 6 feet at the bottom, where it leaves the ahaft: The ore is a mixture of almost anything one may want, and considerable more than Tubal Cain nf old knew anything of. It is said to run high in bismuth, containing the tin-white bismuth, tho cuprous and several other varieties, besides cobalt, zinc and cadmium, and is said to contain iredium and other "truck." The Blde Bell Lode is a new location lo-cation of what was said to be the old Lone Brother, and is, I think, tho best mine in the district. It has a a shaft 30 foot at the bottom, a drift j 10 feet to the east, and then 12 feet to tho west; ore good and high grade, sampling at furnace $28-1 silver; iB a yellow ochre and contains bismuth, chloride, molybdinum, zinc; is variegated varie-gated with blue and green. The Wild River lode was formerly the Tiger; shaft 35 feet on a large vein of yellow ores, of which I know nothing. Rewabic has a shaft 40 feet on a wide vein of red and yellow ocracious ores like the Rover, which are new "track" to mo, and of which no value is known. Atlantic Cable lode wag formerly the Miner's Delight, and is an extension exten-sion of the old bismuth Gentle Mary, Monitor lode. Tt hiw a. shaft air font on same "stuff" as the othor. Anchor lode has a five foot shaft on a large vein of soft red ore, which oan beclassed as "perhaps ore." Vein woll marked. Montezuma lode has a six foot shaft on a widedisplay of ore matter containing contain-ing galena and carbonates; samples assay $50 silver, and 71 percent, lead. Silver Pearl is a January' location of some old claim, with a shaft 35 feet on a wide vein or deposit; contains but i little lead, but goes high in silver; average samples, $75. The composition composi-tion of this oro is a conundrum that liko Mrs. Tilton, "I give it up." This closes what I have seen of the mines, the general course of all of which were from north to north, 40 east. These mines are on the east side of the range, but only about six miles from the new smelter being erected by Spicer and Smith, at Lincoln, which will be completed in a couple of weeks, and to which a good road is being built from these mins. They 1 are alBO only about five miles from Ad am evil le. J ITEMS. f' The amateur dramatic troupe o I Beaver gave an entertainment at Field's theatre a few nights ago thai was well attended and well appreciat ed. The play was "Pocahontas,' Mrs. Bella Bird taking the role o. "Pochy." Your compLinien's on the star of the troupe were cruel. Tho weather has been stormy, viiry much of late, considerable snow having hav-ing fallen, and lots more on thu way down. We aro expecting big snow storms during tho ensuing month. I go to St. George in the morning, and will probably go to the Colorado river before returning. My venerable friend, B. W, Spe.ir, who is the re-to-able correspondent of the Tribune known as "Royal,'' still gives me favorable mention in that paper. They arc well matched. He is the deadest beat in tho country, and has been kicked out of evory boarding house in town; if not literally literal-ly kicked out, he has haul the proprietor pro-prietor stand between him an I the table and refuse to let him eat, niter having tried all manner of abu.: to get rid of him. Ho is a liar by ihe watch, and not one person out of ten in this country will believe him u. der oath. He informs his paper fiat I am refusal remittance to see Loe, and that Lee has discharged mc as one of bis attorneys. The Saxon on this is that it is a lio, told with the intention of lying. I am Btill Mr. Lee's attorney, and have charge of his case for him, and go to see him at pleasure. This same "Roval" Spear also throws dirt at Capt. B.-afi, Pony Duncan and others. The cause of abusing Capt. Beall is that Beall fed him fur mw n vsnf wiiknul . and now the "reliable cortespund-ent" cortespund-ent" is offended because Beall won't fepd him any longer. His letters offend no one hero, where he is known, only people wonder why Gn. Maxwell continues to employ .inch rotten timber for one of his depntii-s. I like bis stories don't want him to Bay anything good of me. Judge Strickland has been hereand at Star for some timo past, having some important mining suita to lmk after, and it is said his busine is such that he will open an office hereto here-to be near his important and profitable profit-able business.
