Show 11 lit liluze. Philadelphia, 26. There was a fire to-night on the third floor of the paint and drug warehouse of W. H. Wain j pole & Co., Fourth street. A strong wind was blowing. Tho fire rapidly spread ia all directions, soon becoming becom-ing one of the most disastrous con fiagrations that ever visited this city. The flames spread north rapidly to the buildings oooupied by Lovegrave it Co., machinery, A. T. Seizing &, Co , printers, T. P. and S. 8. Smith, aboe manufacturers, on South, James Hynara, white lead establishment, Koyal & Co, morocco boot and Bhoe houae, Tondy 6c Co., engravers. Several Sev-eral explosions occurred in the paint home ol Wampele & Co., and eoon after the walls fell in, causing the fire to communicate to the buildings on the west side of Fourth street. About thirty houses in all werej more or less damaged by fire or water and the total loan is still thought to bo 1 about SI, 000,000. I At this hour, 3 a m., the fire is still burning, but is so far under control that ihere is no possible chance of iu farther spreading. |
