The fire originated in the blacksmith shop in the Kjlet auU spread with such rapidity that the cabin was In flames in less than five minutes alter the alarm. She was cut loose and drifted up the stream, there being an eddy at the spot where sue was lying. The Ex-purler Ex-purler and Mod man were also cut loose, and the burning vessel uniieu against too poi icr ( lifati ing. Tue people on uoard of the last two jumped overboard, and (hough some were saved the larger part it is believed be-lieved are lost. The number is variously vari-ously estimated from 20 to 100. On one of the boats was an excursion party troui Cincinnati, or Piltoburg. Many it is feared are lost. Loss, ilSO,000, all supposed to be insured. |
