Show Lead. Lead, according to our report published pub-lished this morning, which, coming com-ing as it does from McCornick fc Co., and being correoted daily, is always reliable, has taken another rise. This was hardly expected, though it was not thought it would go much below $oO. lbe inference from this rise is that the demand for lead must now be pretty permanent, and there is every reason to believe that the prices will, at the very least, remain up for all of the next half year, if not for years. The lead producing properties proper-ties ot the east are far from being able to supply the demand, aud prices have risen there until this metal now commands almost the price3 paid in 1S60-3. In the west, where winter has generally set in and the mines cannot be worked to such an extent aa duriDg the milder eeason; and all these things go to show the permanency of the demand. If, therefore, any of our miners are holding hold-ing off for fear of a drop, the evi-l dences should be strong enough to Bet I them at work. In Bingham and places through the whole winter, and there is no reason why the mines now idle, especially those of Ophir and Dry Canon, should not be made productive once more. |
