Show Cause for Alarm. YeetenUy morning, soon after the Herald went to pres?, the ccoiposi tors, ou reaching the sheet on their way home, experienced a geLuine scare. In the rear ol Kimball it Lawrence's s:ore there ia a bakery, and about that time the "loafer" ol that institution started up his fire for the day's operations, and the way the sparks escaped from the chimney tcp and were watted by the blU bretze which was then bluwiug, coupltd with the glare and redaction cast on the auiroviuding buildings, were sufficient to alarm anybody. The boys had forgotten, for-gotten, iD their excitement, the existence exist-ence of the bake houee, and were certain tbe clcud of sparks and smoke isiuing therefrom was the commencement commence-ment ol a big fire, and oil they started to give the alarm at the city hall. Their progress waa arreBted by one who had been timilarly frightened on a previous occasion, who calkd to them that it was "only that bakery." If those sparks are not dangerous, especially in that locality, when the shingles of adjoining roofs are dry, then iet the institution go ahead; but if they are.it should be suggested to tbe proprietor to uae firing material that will not emit such a volume of live particles of fire as we have frequently seen issuing from tho smokestack ol ! that bakery. |
