Show Another One Caught Charley Williamson, one of Marshal Mar-shal Maxwell's escaped convicts, has been recaptured, and is again in the marshal's custody, having reached the city last evening in charge of an officer. Last Thursday Sheriff Hin-ton, Hin-ton, of Uintah county, Wyoming, learned that Williamson had returned to his old ranchein that county, and biking a couple of officers with him, the sherifl went to the place, arriving about 4 o'clock Friday morning. They opened the door without knocking, knock-ing, and called upon thoseon tbein-side tbein-side to strike a light, but fearing the inmates were putting up a game on them the officers rushed in, when Williamson fired his pistol at the fore most, the ball taking effect in Constable Con-stable Smith's (of Milliard), arm. The desperado attempted to shoot again, but the cylinder of his pistol would not revolve. Williamson then surrendered at the muzzle of a double-barrelled double-barrelled shot gun. His partner, Jack Smith, was about three miles from the ranch cabin, but the snow was so deep that the officers could not travel farther without scow shoes, hence they brought W. to Fvanston, and last evening to this city. Williamson William-son says that after escaping from the penitentiary, the five men Williamson, William-son, Smith, Lewis, Bryant, Goodman separated, three of them taking the railrcad track for Ogdeu, traveling at night and leaving it in the day and camping out. They passed through Evanston on Saturday afternoon, the 20th, while it was storming very hard. They had blankets over their heads; saw several persons they recognized; reached Hilliard after daik and the ranche Monday night. They started with a sack full of provisions which they had been several days in saving at the penitentiary. Williamson is under seven years' sentence. |
