Oi.in-;gFr, Oi.in-;gFr, chief of the Sdlt Lake Fire De-;: De-;: penmen:, was the recipient of a grand jteaimonial of respect, in tbe abapeof j a huge demonstration of welcome -from the members of the brigade. The occasion was his return from a trip to the eastern states and England, Eng-land, on which he started a couple of months or so ago. He was met at the depot on th arrival of the 8.20 train, by bia feUow firemen; a torchlight procession was formed, headed by the lenth Ward band, which marched eastward to the Valley House, south three blocks, east lo the Clift Heuee, up Main street to First South, and to Firemen's Hall. There be waa addressed, ad-dressed, on behalf of the brigade, by Mr. John Reading, who extended to him an afiectionate and hearty welcome wel-come home. Io response the "chisf" said he had been taken so unawares by the demonstration and reception that he was at a Io?s to make an adequate reply. He lelt honored and proua, and hoped lo contiDne to merit the good will entertained for him by the members of the Salt Lake Fire Department. At the con-elusion con-elusion of this ceremony an adjournment adjourn-ment was taken to tbe hall up stairs, where tables were spread with an inviting in-viting supper, of which about 200 persons partook. The affair was characterized by order, good feeling and discipline throughout and reflected re-flected great credit on the committee of management. |
