Show Teachers' Institute. We publish below the constitution and bye-laws of the Salt Lake county Teachers' Institute. The next meeting meet-ing of the institute will be at the Twelfth district school, on Saturday, 19th instant, at 9 o'clock, a. m. School Superintendent Itiggs extends a cordial invitation to those interested in educational affairs to be present. CONSTITDTIOS. Article 1. This institute shall be known bh the Salt Lake County Teachers' Institute. Ar.icU 2. Tue object of this institute insti-tute shall be, the improvement of its members in the science ot teaching aud in the most approved practice, the diffusing of information upon the system ot common school education among the people, and promoting harmony of feeling, and the greatest possible advancement in scientific and general information. Article 3. Any teacher or friend of education may become a member of the institute by signing this constitution con-stitution and complying with the bylaws. by-laws. Article 4. The regular meeting of this institute shall be held bi-weekly, ut the several school districts olSlt Lake county, commencing at 9 o'jlock, a.m. the school of the district dis-trict iu which the institute meets to be in session during the forenoon, and the business of the institute to be attended to in the alternoon; the places of meeting shall be fixed by the executive committee. - Article 5. -The regular officers of the institute shall be a president, two vice presidents, a secretary and assistant assis-tant secretary, a treasu-er and executive exe-cutive committee, and shall be elected elect-ed anuually during the first se3sion in each year. Article 6. It shall be tho chitv r,f the president, and iu his absence a vice-president, to preside at ail meetings meet-ings of the institute, decide points of order, preserve due decorum, and regulate the exercise, according to a programme furnished by the executive execu-tive committee. Article 7 It shall be the duty of the secretaries to keep a faithful record of the proceedings of the institute, in-stitute, and take down an abstract of instruction, debates, essays and lectures, lec-tures, and to record the annual report re-port of the treasurer. Article 8. It shall be the duty of the treasurer to keep an account with the institute of all moneys received and paid out, and at the expiration of his term of oftice to settle his accounts ac-counts with His successor. Article 9. It shall be the duty of the executire committee to fix the place for holding each succeeding institute, in-stitute, making a programme, and give two weeks' notice of the same. Article 10. -All regular officers shall be elected by ballot, and a majority shall elect. Article 11. Any of the provisions of this constitution may be amended, and new articles added thereto, at any regular meatine. bv fiuinj- two weeks previous notice of the proposed amendment or addition, provided two-thirds of the members present vote in favor of Buch amendment or addition. BY-LAWS. Section 1. The institute shall h old its 'regular meetings on each alternate alter-nate Saturday, beginning with thia date. Section 2. Any person of good moral character may become a member mem-ber of this institution by paying the sum of $1 into the treasury, and signing the constitution. Section 3. Each member present shall observe the strictest decorum during the exercises of the institute, and shall act promptly such part as shall be assigned him either by the executive committee or the presiding oflicur. Section 4. The institute shall, at each ol ita regular meetings, oom-mence oom-mence at 9 o'clock a-nt., aud hold to 12 m.; commence at 2 p.m. and bold till 4i p.m. Scctwn 5. As far as practicable the business of tho institute t hail be conducted according to parliamentary usauo. Secion 7- Any person Jefusing to comply with the foregoing by-laws dhall be subject to reprimand, fines, or expulsion at the option of tne institute. |
