The petitiou was acijompaaied by the draft of a resolution granting to them the priviledge asked for, which the petitioners submitted for the action of the council. Petition waa received and the resolution laid over, to ccme up in its order. A petition from George Showell was presented representing that since tho discontinuance of the street-sprinkling, street-sprinkling, the streets were in a very bad anil dusty condition, and that he had been requested by many citizens to run his sprinkling wagon on Main sireet, He therefore esked to be allowed sufficient water from the water works for tbe purpose named, with tbe understanding that he was : to pay for the water as formerly. The resolution in relation to Walker Bros, awning came up and was read and pending consideration it was laid upon the table, it being tbe opinion of manv members, that tbe council could not by resolution or otherwise, relieve any person (rom tho operations of an ordinance.
